Denise, a 44 year old employee, and her husband Kevin met with the EAP Counselor twice. They have 1 son who is in his first year of college at an out-of-state school. Kevin has always had at least a few beers daily but has been drinking in increasing amounts. Denise is concerned that he has a drinking problem and wants him to stop. Denise’s father was an alcoholic who died of health problems resulting from his drinking. Kevin denies that his drinking is a serious problem, and claims he can cut down but doesn’t need to stop completely. He agrees that if he is not successful in cutting down he will consider further help.
Denise meets with the EAP Counselor a few times on her own to look at how this is impacting her and how she can manage it. She also starts attending Al-Anon meetings to gain insight and further support on managing one's own life when loved ones have drinking problems.
